# Sharia finance

## 12.1 Sharia Governance Structure

ONEx operates a fully independent **Sharia Advisory Board** of qualified Islamic finance scholars. All products are certified before launch, audited quarterly, and certificates are visible in-app for every user.

The Sharia Advisory Board operates with complete independence from ONEx management. The Board has veto power over any product or feature that does not comply with Islamic finance principles.

## 12.2 Sharia-Compliant Product Suite

Every ONEx product has a Sharia-compliant alternative. Users in Islamic finance mode see only compliant options — no filtering required.

| Standard Product | Sharia Alternative | Structure |
| ------------------------ | ----------------------- | ------------------------------- |
| Interest-bearing savings | Mudarabah savings | Profit-sharing, not interest |
| Fixed-rate lending | Murabaha financing | Cost-plus trade, not lending |
| Perpetual futures | Wa'd-based hedging | Promise-based, Sharia-screened |
| Standard yield vault | Sukuk vault | Asset-backed, interest-free |
| Standard liquidity pool | Musharakah pool | Partnership profit-sharing |
| Crypto staking | Sharia-screened staking | Only halal assets and protocols |

## 12.3 Smart Contract Sharia Enforcement

The Sharia module is implemented at the smart contract level — not just as a UI filter:

* **Riba (interest) prevention:** Smart contracts cannot execute any transaction with a pre-determined fixed return. All returns must be tied to actual economic outcomes.
* **Gharar (uncertainty) prevention:** All contract terms must be fully specified at time of execution. No speculative elements.
* **Haram asset screening:** Automated screening against a maintained list of non-compliant assets (alcohol, tobacco, pork products, adult entertainment, weapons). List maintained and certified by Sharia Advisory Board.
* **Zakat calculation:** Automatic Zakat obligation calculation on eligible assets, with direct payment routing to certified Zakat recipients.

## 12.4 Islamic Finance Market

The global Islamic finance market represents **$3.7 trillion** in assets and serves 1.8+ billion Muslims worldwide — the majority of whom are underserved by both conventional and existing Islamic finance institutions.

ONEx is the first DeFi platform to offer a comprehensive, scholar-certified Islamic finance suite with smart contract enforcement.
